OSR rate for Campus off the heap

I never said it wouldn’t germinate - whether it makes another crop is another matter. Ask a potato grower what traces of glyphosate does to seed.

Agreed. Germination and vigour are entirely different, as anyone who tried to use year old neonic treated seed learned the hard way 😕

Hello

Now harvest has ground to a halt going to try and dodge some rape in with the subdisc with coulters behind packer.

What rate would would you go for? It's Campus and bold stuff from 2022, has germinated well on the windowsill. Sandy loam soils after w barley.

Thinking around 7kg but any advice welcome as only 2nd time grown here.

Thanks.

we do 10kg

why ? easy multiplication 🤣

seems to work ok

If this rain sets in I'll get it through the seed dresser and get a TGW. Don't want to give the stocks applicator too much stick with the odd bits of stem.
Micro metering rollers really don't like trash. @tw15 Made a cleaner out of sieve sections and a 20 litre can as well as an aspirator cascade cleaner powered by a vacuum cleaner.

Eheh thanks, the colanders have been tried, think last weekend's wind would have blown the whole lot away! I'll get the fire guard out.

I'm not sure you can compare a potato tuber to a proper seed. Glyphosate is the only chemical we use that goes down the plant into the roots which results in plant death, that is why it is so good on couch grass and its effect on a tuber. In every field that is pre harvest treated with glyphosate there will always be huge amounts of growth from volunteers, and those volunteers would grow to maturity if allowed.

I would always advice, and practice, no glypho on a seed crop, but the problem of it affecting germination is very much exaggerated, especially if applied when the seed is mature anyway.

You can get sieves here from builders merchants in various sizes. They start in price from about 15 euros. We do all our OSR through a number 6 sieve which is a 4mm spacing.
With one person pouring and another shaking you can do two 80 litre dustbins full in about half an hour which is enough for 10 to 15 hectares through a Delimbe T18 mounted on a Kverneland CLC .
Don't ask me the seed rate I have no idea and it varies wildly according to how tough the going is because we sometime have to drop down two gears or more to deal with a heavy spot so its not very sophisticated but seems to work well.

I answered that one in post #19

That's perfect variable rate in action - tough bits get more. I concluded a while back that, when in the runs with the combi, constant seeds/minute would be ideal.
