Our new(ish) parlour

Only used to be valid if the milk round was actually based on the farm - sales of raw milk through a third party milkman was strictly not allowed.
That has changed then, as a producer I'm not allowed to deliver it myself. Courier or milkman is okay though. I think milkman is allowed as they record the deliveries.

We were selling about 80 gallons a day of raw on our own rounds and were subjected to “pintas of peril” leafleting from Co-oP and Northern Foods minions (including theft and destruction of our unique glass bottles and theft and return to doorstep 10 days later of full bottles),

So we installed a pasteuriser and grew the volume to 500 gallons per day - Some folk insisted that they still wanted raw so they got bottles with a green top and the rest got a silver top (or striped semi/skim) even though ALL the whole milk had been pasteurised with the knowledge and blessing of the local EHO.
😉

Then the supermarkets got involved and the rest is history.

We tried delivering for a bit, it meant setting up a seterate limited company to keep within the rules. We delivered once a week and made a small charge for it. Like most things at the time (lockdown 2020) it started well but fizzled out within a year. Most couldn't get their heads around the delivery charge, amazon did it for free, why couldn't we. I even explained to one customer how the van wasn't free, the fuel wasn't free, tax, insurance etc, even that we had to pay someone to make the deliveries. Her response was that I could do the deliveries and save paying someone. I stopped short of saying she should get herself her own cow and have 'free' milk.

Probably the major change since @Courier was bottling is the huge growth of coffee shops.
Although we have a wide range of customers the coffee shops looking for a milk that performs well when they steam it & do latte art are our biggest sector.
None homogenised & fresh seem to be the main factors.

It’s all about the protein to create a good foam in steamed milk 😉

I will, I'm sure, regret posting this but for anyone that is interested we are appearing on "The Farmers' Country Showdown" tomorrow at 2.15pm on BBC1. We spent a couple of days filming back in the summer, we don't know what made the final cut and what didn't but they filmed most things. Apologies in advance, I hated just about every minute of it, so might not come across well!

just come across this thread being a wet day , had heard about your outfit from other sources but had not realised your presence here.
Just like to say well done on what you are achieving though so much hard work. Having grown up on a dairy farm know the pressure and work involved, good luck you two for the future!
