Lovely cows ,lovely little setup there Tim

We have a 'new ' parlour coming ,after 20 years of jar milking ,I decided to help my other half 'The Milker' ,by adding some ACR 's ,and in the course of buying some older second hand ones off a friend , ,we had reason to visit a not so far away neighbour , on the opening of a new business he started !!
He jokingly told us how we ought to look at his old parlour that was now redundant , and after a couple of visits actually got inside it to look ! A twenty something yr old Fullwood ten a side herringbone swingover ,with 5 yr old meters ,acr's Clusterflush - Direct to line .

I was only interested in the vac pump and inverter setup ,but 2 days later bid him on the lot and he accepted !!
My balerman ,also is a parlour fitter ,so hes helping us remove and install it !!

So luckily my friend was very understanding about his secondhand acr's to go on the old jarsetup we had ,that we were meant to buy off him !
So now its direct to line ,and in the meantime we are trying to get a variable speed vac pump setup put in - but inverters are sadly unavailable !!
If anyone has a single phase second hand one ????:p
Same thing here. My mother used to do the milking and after 20 or 25 years we got acr's (when I started to do half of the milkings ;)) it was kind of expensive to me but boy what a step forward.

Pleased to report the ice cream trials are under way. Not sure if I said this further up the thread but we've been making a plain, un flavoured, base mix with our milk and cream which is pretty damn good on its own. We've then been experimenting with flavours rippled through the base mix. The picture is of cookies and cream (oreo). We also made cherry, biscoff (personal favourite) and honeycomb. Sophie also made a chocolate base mix by melting chocolate into the plain base mix before churning which came out well. She then used that to make chocolate orange and chocolate brownie. Some very positive feedback so far from those that have tried it.

you could get some very different concentrated flavours, from a site called ' love brewing', they are for a completely different use, as the site name suggests, we make our own 'ethanol', and use the flavouring, with excellent results, we actually use quite a lot. There is a wide selection.
strawberries and cream
rhubarb and ginger
gingerbread
peaches and cream
blood orange
and loads more, could be worth a look. You never know, you might start producing your own ''''''ethanol''''''''''

The flavours we've been using are premade variegato which we just ripple in. Bit of a cheat but it works!

cheat?
we tried making our own flavours up, nothing as good as cheating, with those.
and, our gin, is quite popular, home consumption only..........
best part, alcohol seriously disagrees with pain regime, so l am virtually tee total.
but have a look, it's dirt cheap, and very concentrated.

Never had a problem getting cows to come in the parlour but getting them to stay out has been challenging. Certain ones like to come back in the exit and hoover spilt nuts, have a cr@p and generally pester those being milked. I've been wanting to make a one way gate, there was one here but I've a feeling it was scrapped years back, so Googled them to get some ideas. Then saw this one on agri kit website for £76 and thought I couldn't make one better for less. It arrived yesterday and I've just put it up.

aught to be a dedicated web site, to sell things that stop jersey's being so nosy and intelligent.

Long term our aim was for 15 cows, I'm building the parlour so we could put 30-40 through it without too much trouble.
Currently we sell from the farm, at a farmers market and through the local milkman. No vending machine, the quote of around £10k put us off for now.
Have rules changed about selling raw milk through a third party (local milkman) ? - or should I not have asked 🥴

We are allowed to sell to a milkman but not a shop.
