I have a small tin of it here but ive never used it so i don't know a big pile about it tbh but id be also interested to hear views of people who did use it, if there is any.
like you i will have the chassis of a vehicle to do something with shortly, im going to sand blast it with fine grain sand and then coat it with a few coats of just what im not too sure of right now, id like to make a good job of it when im at it, Owatrol interests me.

if your going to and blast , look up http://www.buzzweld.co.uk/ im sure they sell that pro15 that mentioned in aidans video , they have a facebook page answering peoples questions , just the owatrol looked like a easy option to work with , funny the first 2 replies have been Irish based and it was a Irish link that I first saw it on ,

I did the chassis and under the tub of of an old Hilux with the buzzweld stuff last winter , there are loads of theories about which products are best . The main consensus seem to be that flexible product like shultz type underseal while seeming good can let water progress down the back of them and rust from the inside . where as paint type products as long as they have enough solids and consistency to evenly coat the corroded surface enough to get an even coverage of paint in the highs and pits of the corroded surface to prevent air from getting to them will work well .
However its very difficult to sift through the various different technical arguments and come to an informed decision and ignore what is just marketing .

My reasoning was simply I needed to remove as much rust scale as possible so what I put on sticks firmly to metal and then coat it with at least 2 coats of some product , I used Buzzweld rust encapsulator and chassis in one over the top of it you can obviously use chassis in one by its self but i thought If i was doing it I would do as through job as possible .
painting over loose rust with any product will be waste of time , I knocked the rust of with a needle gut and wire discs on the grinder plus some flap discs and sprayed the products on with an applicator.
it looked great once done but was pretty hard work preparing it although it was quite satisfying, taking the tub off made it much easier .
I sold the hilux so cant say how well it worked but others who have used it on the hilux forum do recommend it

Just to muddy waters
My thoughts were a standard shultz type will set and probably let rust behind, rot behind .....
I have used , and experience of propper full fat hammerright waxoyl , it don't set ,always soft ish , i rate it . Possibly it washes off arches ??
If uve gonna ever work on the car ur gonna get sh!t up . Online showed if u use black u seem to use less than clear ??
Presumably u don't over spray as much cuz u see black , but if ur working near it u probably wont want to b covered in black......

Heat it , empty shultz can ,airline .

I have used Owatrol Oil before,
I found it to be extremely effective as a rust inhibitor.

I made an single pedestrian access gate,
It was all cold rolled mix of square tube and flat bar with some decorative spikes swirls.
I'm a welder but my main job isn't gates this was for a friend, anyway.

After cleaning the gate s with brake clean,
I painted the Owatrol on directly one coat.
After that I mixed some Owatrol into the primer, and same for the top coat.
I took the amounts from their website.

At the same time I had a cut of sheet of 3mm steel about 1m²
I Painted parts of this with only Owatrol oil, no primer or topcoat.

5 years latter the gate is perfect, more interestingly the cut off sheet everywhere I put the Owatrol had no rust everywhere else very rusty.

I thought it was pretty effective.

I'm definitely no expert in painting but I was impressed.
