It's all about a balanced diet. Our labs get a good portion of dry mix dog food, with some cat food (meat) mixed in. To top this up a varied mixture of horse sxxt, sheep sxxt, and the odd bit of cleansing, and for a special treat they do like the hoof trimmings when the farrier is round.

I didn't know you were supposed to feed Collies :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and the cats eat meat all the time, when they catch it.............

there was a vet on my Welsh course years ago, we were talking about what we should feed the dogs, she said, her dogs get the leftovers, someone asked "what if there aren't any left overs that day", she replied "they don't get anything"!

Indeed. Thus far I've never seen either of my cats uproot a turnip and present it's half eaten remains to me on the doorstep. Neither have shown an interest in avocado or humus.
One of ours eats rice, usually stolen from a child’s plate. It will however promptly vomit it back up again as if to prove a point.

i've been cold all my life and i'm no veggie or vegan. :)
that comes from living in the top of the UK! Mind you, here (in Wales) it's just cold and wet! I went to an open day at Pwllperian experimental farm and they said at one stage they had a load of Scots Blackface Ewes, which they said had a centre parting with all the rain and just could not cope with the rain in West Wales!

Plenty of city cats are 'house cats' and never let out so can't do what cats do.
A friend in the village, right by the side of a very busy main road, had a cat that never went outdoors. It only ever went out accidentally twice in its life. Had to be put down due to old age a couple of weeks ago at only 14. My own cats, two sisters, were in and out all the time and had to be put down at 19 and 20 years of age respectively. Both ate meaty diets at vast expense. My disposable income has improved dramatically as a result of their demise, poor things.

At a talk a few years ago, the Australian speaker came up with a stat that the av. age of Australian dogs 100 yrs ago was 18. Now, with the advent of modern veterinary medicine and breeding, the average age was 14.

It seems strange to me that pet owners are fined for not feeding their pets properly, but the same people won’t be fined for not feeding their children properly.

I don’t know why that surprises me though in this batshit mental world.
Exactly - wouldn't you want your children to be making their blood out of the very best nutrition available, instead of whatever is cheap and shuts them up? 🤷‍♂️ or, whatever group of foods fits your narrative about the other foods?

it is bizarre
