Pigeon Shooting / Crop Protection (Loughborough)

Good Afternoon,

Like many others on here, I am hoping to find some land to shoot on in/around the Shepshed area in order to keep a lid on those pesky Pigeons as well as other pest birds species, plus grey squirrels and other mammalian types where required.

I have been rifle shooting for about 15 years and shotgun shooting for about 6 years - I am a member of BASC and despite my more limited 2 barrel experience compared to a rifle, i've spent a fair amount of time on the clays and also have been involved with various shoots as a beater and as a gun.

I'm 32, honest, respectful, trustworthy, and, as mentioned above, currently live on the outskirts of Loughborough, in Shepshed. I do have some experience working on farms - milking on a dairy farm and also I spent Summer 2021 working for a contractor harvesting around 5000 acres - where time allows, I’m more than happy to roll up my sleeves and offer a extra pair of hands if/when needed.

I’m not a gung-ho character out to shoot everything that moves as I believe everything has its place, but do understand numbers need to be controlled. I’m also a big advocate of promoting game meat so nothing edible will go to waste - what people don’t eat, I’m sure my working Springers will!

I appreciate land permissions generally come from building a good rapport with farmers / land owners rather than some randomer knocking at the door or positing on a forum, but if you are having any pest issues, it would be great to discuss any possible arrangement further.

Many thanks,

Scott.

Be complex around Shepshed as rather a lot is owned by the Squire and is now subdivided amongst Trusts, family and developers.
The game shoot, rearing business, beekeeper and all the ancillary Estate tenants had their contracts terminated after the sale/contracts were paid up.
Only shooting round there now is the Farm manager and his friends.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed there’s plenty of developers in the area now - Strata, William Davies and Persimmon to name a few… shame there’s so many new builds going up!

I’ve offered to help with various jobs for a local shoot over the springer/summer as and when time allows with a view to joining them beating next season.

Would be nice to get the dogs out working between seasons though as well, whilst keeping on top of the pests.

One can but live in hope.
