Pigeons and companion crops

An interesting observation from this year's experiments:

Planted spring linseed seed with my osr. The linseed is dying off, but the taller straight stems, I'm fairly certain, are keeping the pigeons off the rape. Can't remember the seed rate off the top of my head, but it was higher than the rape I think.

Obviously they will now start mullering it, but so far I haven't got a gas gun out, and every field has a wood on one side of it, which tells you what it would usually be like.

Thank you. What were your plans for dealing with the linseed if it looked to cause you a problem in the osr? A thin patch of osr might be fun to combine with a thatch of linseed at the bottom!

Good question. Went straight kerb obviously, but will the fall back of korvetto if things were looking serious.

As it is, I don't think it will be an issue, unless it perks up bigly.

i have got a gravity separator for worst case though.

Don’t know if it’s due to the lack of OSR being grown this year, but the pigeons are hammering my Lucerne. Also my new herbal leys are getting a lot of pigeons on.

I tried putting some mustard with my osr a few years ago. Worked well untill March time, when the frost killed the mustard as hoped as it broke down the pigeon could use it as a perch to eat the growing osr that would have normally been to tall for them. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
