Seem to have a bit of pink eye in a few sheep both ewes and tips, never had it before the effected sheep have been isolated and had a jag of terramycin la and loxicom on vets advice. Anything else i could do will it spread more?

It’s very contagious if your trough feeding in the winter as they bump against each other. I think the wind and the rain seem to make it worse.

Always used Orbenin eye ointment cream here and always worked well. Used to have it really bad every year when trough feeding pregnant ewes and they had hay in racks. Since moving to snacker and haylage it reduced to 10-20 a year, since removing snacker and almost all on roots with wetter haylage the instances are 1-2 a year

Might be worth checking for fluke. I had bother a couple of years ago and in discussion with local vet it was mentioned that fluke infection, and the resultant effect on the immune system, could be a factor.

pink eye is a pansy......i have heard of ppl using terramycin spray ...not licensed in this country for eyes so of course i havn't ....IIRC in other countries they're able to get/use 1/2 strength terramycin for eyes.....i can't help thinking it's better than jagging eyelids

The first time we had it, it just ripped through the lot - I guess in a naive population there's no immunity at all.

Oxytet (terramycin) is the only thing that well touch it here. Just watch the ones that have had it as some sheep seem to get re-infected two or three times and pass it on to all and sundry, while others will only get it once.

After what happened to me about 3 years ago I think I have a PHD in pink eye. Alamycin la works well for the ones that have it but still have good vision. For the ones that have had vision affected from cloudy eyes some opticlox cream works well.

Unfortunately you’ll have to get them in every 2 weeks or more often if possible as you won’t spot them all the first day as they get infected at different stages.

I’m not sure what the above mentioned remedies trade as in the uk apologies.

Dry cow tube squirt in the eye seems to work here always get a handful randomly in the summer

My cousin's cows (i imagine sheep are similar enough) had a bit of pink eye one year, he cleaned his water trough and put apple cider vinegar in the fresh water and that seemed to work pretty good.
Generally pink eye is a result of a bacterial infection not that there is anything wrong with the eyes.

same thing happened here 2 or 3years ago, i put something up at the time and a few said it were just coincidence, But it were down to low immune system caused by fluke.

You didn’t have an unusual amount of seed heads in your fields this year did you? I had a lot of crested dogs tail and I think it was responsible for quite a few cases here in late summer.

I had it a few years back in 2 ewes. Injected (shoulder) with terramycin and it cleared it.

I really wouldn't muck about with injecting into the eyelid. Intramuscular will do the same job.

You didn’t have an unusual amount of seed heads in your fields this year did you? I had a lot of crested dogs tail and I think it was responsible for quite a few cases here in late summer.

No more that usual really all in fairly young grass and in different fields.

The difference is the amount of oxytet required 1mm against 6-8mm

In oz we have terramycin for eyes, i use on cattle, can also help with scald but dear way of doing it.
