Just a few pics taken from today's Ayrshire Ploughing match

There looks to be some very good ploughing done. The ground looks to be in excellent condition for ploughing. Here in sunny Shropshire you would be lucky to walk across most fields it is so wet. My first match is next weekend and is on light land and with a dry week forecast I hope it will go ahead.

Great set of images, particularly like the early ones of the Ford 4000 4WD, I used to sell them new, goodness just made myself feeling rather old! He seems to be making a tidy job of things too.

Looks like he has been doing a little gardening on Plot 4!!!.

I might dig my old match plough out I have never used it since Young Farmers days, but used to be great fun

Some very tidy work there, A 4wd MF 135? I haven't seen one of those before, is it a conversion?

4wd 135 is scottish classic ploughing champion jock seivwright from near perth. The 4wd axle is from a range rover and is driven from the pto on the tractor thru the land drive setting.

The 4wd 4000 is also from outside perth, and it was originally a 2wd but had the 4wd axle added just a year or 2 ago

The reason for the smaller 4wd tractors is weight. The 135 and kv plough can legally be towed behind a 4x4.

I see,does it really help a lot with traction,I thought a well set up plough should be easy to pull.

I was told by one them that the 4wd made the tractors track straighter as they were pulling themselves along but that could of been a load of twaddle, I used to plough at a fair few local ploughing matches until a couple of years ago and plan to get back into it again sometime in the not too distant future. Currently using Ransomes Robin plough on either BMC 9/16 or Fahr D132L.
