Pole barn replacement

Evening all,

Recent storm has given my old pole barn a different appearance to a point where I just want to rip the rest of it down with a digger to tidy up the eyesore.

I want to replace it with a steel frame building of the same size.

Are photographs of existing building, however damaged, sufficient to support its replacement without going for planning?

I will ask my planning advisor this week, but interested in the forums advice too.
Thanks.

Did you get planning for the pole barn? Are pole barns deemed temporary structures or not

Unless someone is likely to complain I’d say carry on & do it & if in the unlikely event planning people come back on you then it was an emergency replacement for livestock & apply for retrospective planning, don’t see how they could turn it down, we have been in the same situation with no come back.

Sadly planning is needed, even if it was an identical replacement.
I feared this would be the case. I’ll see if I can get a PD application sorted asap and get something approved before I rip it down. I presume I could take the tin off that is flapping around in the breeze and leave what’s left of the frame so it’s still a structure for the time being.

I recently gained approval to build a grain store on the site of an old potato store only then to be told some weeks later by the local authority planning that I then needed to apply again to demolish the potato store. Seemed ridiculous to me as I had explained the demolition in the initial application. I had no choice other than apply for permission for demolition and pay another fee or face a threat of retrospective planning on the demolition at a much larger fee. They did come and look at the building earmarked for demolition.

This caused a months hold up as the demolition contractors were on standby.
