Poor mans Guttlers

Did you ever get a pic of your drilling rig, the established crop photos look well!

Hey mate sorry i haven't i will be home tuesday - will get one - ive had another 25mm rain on crop so hoping net blotch is not rampant!!

This is a pic when i sowed my first wheat crop, its the same rig just has 3 row harrows now (which didnt do a great deal - so they will come off and Guttlers will go on).

The seeder cost me $900 and the roller cost $2200 and can be filled with water if needed...does good job sowing wheat into worked seed bed - future direct drilling i will need to do something with tines, or update to something later..

I plan to play around with the cheaper seeders until i know what works in certain conditions..i'd say i might own a nice disc drill one day but will keep these old MF's..i have one i am setting up as a dedicated winter bean drill and maybe millet etc summer crop...i will use y pieces ( bought from hardware store for $1 each) and run two rows into one so its on 14" spacings.

And i will never part with my beloved 3350 (John)...need to buy a 100HP FWA soon however..

I was rummaging through the depths of old files on a computer and found this, closing wheel for mounting C shank tines. No idea how well they work, just something I came across years ago, possibly posted on the old BFF.

Hi..theres not enough tilth for those type of harrows to drag back in dirt...i drag two rows.of pipe to try and get some loose dirt in....its just an issue with soil type...however that has grown the best barley by far this year...so some sort of futtler to bash side of trench and some stronger tynes and i think i can do a decent job as one pass drill...

After a few.seasons of knowing what works i will build.something decent...

Cheers for suggestions...

Can you get an Alan Johns direct drill under carriage to suit the old 55 ? I know he builds them for inters...May be worth keeping your eyes open for a converted inter one day...Still got our 55 MF in the shed...think it will just become a relic now...

Lots of those around...its easier to buy the agro drill coil tynes or get from china and make own tool bar...once i get something im happy with i will make out of pieces...most likely 3 point linkage 3.5m that is supported by full width roller wheels and has two tool bars ...one tyne one disc...

Road transprt here is drama...20 row combine to wide!!! With wheels...just box width is ok...

How wide is your 55?

I'm under the pump at the minute if you don't mind waiting... Another good place to try for all manner of things 2nd hand is Scotties in Berrigan 03 5885 2255 he does the rounds of clearing sales buying up what ever patching it up and selling it. He may have complete or parts for 55's and the like.
