That's good money, what must they be buying round here for £8 in the shop, unless it's porkies they are telling me (likely)

I ordered some piper seed at the right money, last year, I'm thinking of cancelling, has anybody ever done that? I don't think they will mind too much as they are up about £50/t since or do I get them and resell. I need less hassle.

Demand seems to be picking up this week. Moving Agria at £320, small quality of Ramos and Performer at £290. Still a long way to way in the selling season yet? Where will it get to by June??
Free buy prices in Northern Europe looking very healthy.

Sounds like the Dutch seed companies are up to tricks again. Hearing many reports of growers being let down on seed orders esp seed from Holland.
Still waiting on a load of Dutch seed, although fortunately taken delivery of most seed now.

As Honest John says many growers may want to up planted area but will there be enough seed to acomodate this.

New to us this year if we get it!

How is the general size this year on different varieties?

Most varieties are small in the run, not getting much tops off seed stocks, ( all varieties)
Markies is half 35-45 and half 45-55 by weight when graded, only have 20 t tops of 150t seed and they'll prob go away as 55-60 seed.
Performer prob burnt down a little small but seed going away up to 60mm ( need to as not a lot of tubers)

Do you have pcn if growing performer?

Is performer resistant to both strains?

There is an air of Despration amongst the middle men.

We are providing the end user with some chips but they are not happy with the crop that the season has provided.

Small bloody small with a few exceptions, damage from hard clods, a few melters to keep you on edge. A lot of mixed fries about & dry chips.

All that & it's like taking candy from a baby.

Can't help thinking they will be ordering some new boots to kick the hell out of us at the 1st chance, so don't give it them.

Very interesting to hear thanks.

Our PCN counts are from 0-14 counts. We only have a four year clear rotation. Want to get this down. Will be using Nemathorin too.

Yes
In theory it will clean the ground of PCN like a trap crop so you can come back with Piper Markie etc again next time.
We will find out.

Not sure about using Nemathorin as well, I need to do homework on that as it shouldn't be necessary.

I wasn't sure either but went to an agronomy meeting with John Keer (he has done a hell of a lot of trials with Nemathorin) and he said his results were better with performer and nemathorin together. Of coarse I was hoping he was going to say we didn't need it! £490 per ha this year.

Another agronomist said that with using nemathorin too the potatoes get away better.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
