I follow this thread with interest, but also as a stock feed user. Can anyone explain why I'm finding them so scarce? The vein of this thread for the last few months would suggest that there'd be a glut.

I think maybe folk are holding on hoping for the best. We're 80% done now, but most of what we have is Piper, Charlotte and Peer, only 900t if whites, 50% on contract. The 200t or so of uncontracted could be a blood bath though[emoji58]. Our ground doesn't produce stuff that will store until may hence why so much is gone.

There are reported to be plenty potatoes in store, but doesn't mean utilisation rates are any higher, so no extra stock feed on the market just yet?

Could do you some at £60ex if you want? :)

Stock feed is very undervalued imo. At £30t it is still cheaper than barley nutrition wise.

Chap I take it to for free gets 100’s of tonnes of waste veg. Parsnips, red beet, onions, carrots and spuds. Mostly all for free apart from he has to cart some himself. Lucky he’s one of the only beef farmers in the area! He has just over 1000 head I believe.
We have a straw for muck arrangement with him too.

You are needing to get some cows on farm, you have the straw and plenty free food on your doorstep. Can't go wrong!

We had a straw for dung deal once with someone who was similar to your chap, the dung that came back was stinking with rotten veg.
