6 miles to gallon, lorry and trailer to pay for and driver to pay for a dayHaulage is very expensive, and I don't really know why.

It is, some terrible gulleys on some fields that block roads but scrape it up and take it to the top of the slope again. They spread a pea and vetch seed mix into the standing crop just prior to harvesting, so the act of harvesting covers the seed. This cover crop helps keep the soil there.
