Power Harrow / Drilling on frost ?

Expect a lumpy seedbed if the surface is still frozen. Just because it's hard on top doesn't mean it's good to go underneath! What was it like underneath?

It will get very sticky as it thaws, so you'll need to stop for a couple of hours at least.

Dont seem to get on well in a frost here, even more sticky as it thaws, no frost this morn, sun and some wind, we actually have some drying occurring!!! Freshley ploughed land slightly too sticky here but land ploughed a month ago is drilling ok.

A good frost will let most of the disc drills out to play, we buried alot of wheat with a Rapid drill in winter of 2000 when it was too frozen for a Tineseeder.
From memory we put on 300kg/ha and tried to bury the seed at least 1.5" deep.
The Rapid was useless most of the autumn until the frosts came.

I’ve drilled hundreds of acres in the frost with the 750. It goes in well but unfortunately, unless it stays dry for a long time after seeding, it’s often not very successful. The combination of cold and wet soil normally finishes it off.
