Off track Pete but is there a tie up with gmr with the multidrives. Can’t keep up the going’s on there. Only reason I ask is they had a post on FB last week that made me think that but was maybe harmless

If Claas took that attitude with me I would more inclined to buy the parts or fabricate them myself, that is disgusting. There must be dozens of after-market conversions to specialist vehicles across Europe, Puntabrava did one years ago.

What odds does it matter to Claas what you do with their machine so long as you carry on using them for parts and service? If I was the manager of Claas UK I would help you in every way you could even if all you did was rally the thing- it would be excellent PR for the company. I bet they probably have the fudging parts required laid against the warehouse wall somewhere in Germany with dust on and they haven't been touched for years. I'd give the bloody things away and use it as a carrot to get you signed into a service/warranty agreement and your picture in their little magazine. Man finds new use for Xerion- that is marketing gold....

At long last I’ve made a tentative start on the Xerion.

It’s been a long story of hassle and hold ups since I bought it in September and that shows no sign of letting up. Parts are desperately slow to arrive and to date, after ordering everything in early February the only things I’ve received are a tool box catch and a pair of headlights.

More bad news today, after being told the cab subframe would be here last week they are now saying mid May. That’s going to be cutting it very fine for me because I really need it mostly done by mid June before we start walking thousands of acres of standing crop.

Anyway, trying to keep on the up side, I’ve done a few bits and bobs. Had the new wheels and tyres fitted a while back. The old silver wheels and tyres are for sale if anybody wants a pair or one for a spare. Quite good tyres, easily capable of holding up a corner and keeping a tractor working for a day or two in the event of a tyre disaster. They are 710/60/42. I think! :D

As I have already said, my original plan was to fabricate it all myself but insurance wouldn’t have it at all, so I had to relent and agree to all Claas parts.

It’s no good just not telling your insurer on a job like this. Anything serious happens and I don’t fancy spending years in jail.

There must be a plethora of one-off machines with tonnes of custom-made parts out there and people manage to insure them and use them fine? Whats so special about this machine and why do they care that much to threaten you like that?? Its very odd.
