Instead of buying fuel additives just make sure you order EN590 red it's the better quality diesel that standard red

I always find it interesting when people talk about different quality’s of fuel. My day job is in the maintenance department of an oil refinery and I can say with 100% surety that it’s all out of the same tank. Each refinery covers certain areas. The red and white are the same but have a die (which you sold never spill on yourself!)

As for additives and Fancy expensive fuels they are all the same and a small dosing pump mixes it going into the tanker but to be honest it’s not worth bothering with. It’s all marketing. Also the premium or high performance stuff can be lower octane than the basic.

For example
95 has a range of 93-98
99 has a range of 97-100

But it all comes out the same tank and is usually about 97 or something and the fancy stuff as a small amount of additive added into the tanker at the road terminal. Also it makes no odds what brand of station you go to they all get the fuel from the same places.

My advice is buy from whoever you can get it cheapest and just ignore the rest. If you can get stuff without bio in he diesel it’s probably gonna help. But I’d be surly if you can find it. Bio petrol is fine as it’s different stuff that goes in it.

Of course all fuel supplies come from the same production facilities- it's not like there are 4 oil refineries in each region. It's the same base product with a differing additive package in it.

I would disagree though that higher octane fuel or premium fuels make no difference to anything.

Is you money waste. I’m just telling you what goes into it. Your paying 99% marketing and maybe getting a fraction more for your money if your luck.

Here's hoping this early start to harvest will give you plenty of fields to go at before long Pete! Ground is hard - just hope the weather holds.

I'm sure it would be more pleasant spending time in the Xerion cab with air-con than in a Big A on a day like today.

We did get going early but it’s faltered a bit now. Spreading every day but not big tonnes.

The Big A cab isn’t a bad place to spend the day. Whilst it’s a bit basic the air con is like a freezer and when I rebuilt it I made it a little more quiet and better appointed. I spent a lot of money on a good Grammer seat, best seat I’ve ever had, in fact better than the Xerion.

In short, the Big A does everything I want it to do. How about you @Shovelhands. ?

I quite like the OE seat tbh, I have made a few bespoke adjustments to it though, to get it just right.
It’s got the coldest aircon I’ve ever encountered, I must confess I’m no big fan of aircon, I’d rather have the window open, I do like to be able to hear, and smell sometimes, when catastrophe is imminent.... but the aircon has been most welcome the last couple of weeks.
l’ve got a decent radio which connects to my phone, which is nice. Room for a cool box full of water (essential for me). Good visibility and a decent door with a nice veranda....what more do you want 🤷‍♂️
So I’m happy enough in my Big A, yes there’s more creature comforts in more modern machines, but I’ve not discovered a machine that does the job better.....

Pete are you going to treat us all to a couple of pics of inside the beast. You’ve been kind enough to show the beauty outside!!!
Remember reading somewhere how you’d sent the whole cab away to be repaired and smartened up.

Eerrrr..... well, I could but if I’m honest it’s a bit of a pit just now.
Can’t believe it but yesterday when trying to get finished in heavy rain, I jumped out quick to shovel the last couple of tonnes loose which had stuck inside the wet body. Not taking enough time I hadn’t shut the door properly.
When I got back to it the door was wide open, the seat was wet, dust was all stuck inside it, I was soaked, my boots were clagged up and, to be honest, it’s a disgrace in here just now!!
I’ll muck it out later and get a pic.

Oh no. You’re kidding, I did the same on the combine a few weeks ago, had more straw and dust on the inside of the windows than the outside!!
Don’t short change is all, think we should have a snap of inside both the xerion and the classic Big A, wouldn’t want either machine to feel left out!!!
