How do you find the stock board for working with? I was thinking of using some for mudguard extensions but wasn’t sure if they’d bend enough and if they would warp?? Was thinking of abs plastic instead

It’s good stuff. You can cut it with a saw, jigsaw or grinder, drill it with metal or wood bits, bend it easily on a big radius and it’s easy to heat with a heat gun to put tight corners on it which gives it great strength.

If you’re careful it will hold with Tek screws but they will strip unless you take care. You can use a sanding wheel on a grinder to put smooth, curved edges on it. It holds its colour for years too.

I would like stainless fittings but they are eye wateringly expensive.

Im not keen on denso tape. I find it looks tatty after a while. I don’t spread much bagged fertiliser so it’s not much of a problem. Every time I spread Fibrophos I wash it off and the lime is no bother at all. I’ve lacquered some of the new fittings so I’ll see if that works.

A little bit of progress. I’ve had the 750 tyres fitted today.

It’s been a bit of a half job because of time pressure. The centres need moving in the wheels to bring them out wider and make the whole machine a bit more stable. The rear tyres will then go on the front and the whole set will be shotblast and painted white like the rest of my kit.

All that will take time, which I just don’t have. It’s a bit disappointing but the important thing is the wide tyres are on where we need them.

Looks good! They should carry the spreader well. As you say, with the season ticking on it makes more sense to have it in working order than cosmetically right. Personally I like the wheels in grey/silver.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
