Pure Angus cows, what bull?

Why?

Cost is one way to look at it. The other is benefits.

1. Your market becomes premiumised
2. You will discover what your herd's current state is
3. You can act to remove the issues that exist

Not only will the removal of problem cows help you with the health status, the improved health status will increase your bottom line through lower vet bills and better performance.

The Herd is closed apart from stock bulls that come from trusted farms then get tested and penned up for 6 weeks before mixing with the cows after given the all clear, The herd has tested clear of everything and is clean as it gets,

I feel the cost to get tested every year is far to much only people benifiting is the vet!

not realy number 5 on the OP posting is a low cost system cows getting back in calf and alack of caveing probs are big factors can't sell a dead calf and dry cows cost to keep
milking seems to be a big factor are hybred crosses going to milk better or even frist cross calfs going to do a lot better under the system in place
we used to have about 150 beef cows all types of breeds dairy cross sim's lim's angus/lims used lim and lim/angus bulls later on used beef shavers on harder ground higher milkers and euro breeds did not do as well as the beef shavers
The OP also mentions concerns about a lack of hybrid vigour along with the milk and carrying on with the pure AA line isn't going to address that.

It's not a low cost system - Angus has to take up the slack and rear the calves for the cows from 4 months on I think he said with the creep feed. There's no place for that in a low cost system.
I wouldn't take a pen of stabiliser bullocks to fort William or Oban marts in a hurry I'm afraid
Or Dalmally. Or Stirling UA. Or Caledonian Marts..............

he's still going to have the same prob if not worst with a hybred seen the same thing happen here people had lines of pure angus and herefords up on hill country bring in the flash euro blood line's get the agri adviser's ranting about extra gains hybred growth etc etc best thing the euros did was stir up the breeders
trend now with the feed lots etc most have gone back to the angus and herefords
i would not be supprised looking at the sheep industry if some of the bulls for sale are the best of the show pony's know a few breeders that made bigger gains by not going to the shows working on trates that add money to cockys pockets not ribbons on the wall

Hey , Lothians boy of the East!!

We of the West are canty , couthy , Presbyterian God Fearing tillers of the soil!!

Always popping in and out of each others Black Houses with slices of clootie dumpling , bottles of Whiskey and peats for the open fire just to keep each others spirits up in the face of the endless rain and the ceaseless gales!! We have to be of Cheerful disposition and optimistic outlook in face of the crippling poverty that surrounds us and the fact that we have to send our womenfolk on a 15 mile round trip each day to fetch water from the well!!!

Whereas you lot from the East with your penthouses and your central heating and your tarmac roads and your glamourous nights out in Wine bars and Casinos and your racehorses and sports cars and jewellery and Rolex watches just make me SIIIIICK!!!!!

You'll have had your tea? Tell me about it.

BTW Martin , I'm a bit short on the readies this week , so if you could see your way to bunging me £20 I'd be ever so , ever so grateful ;););)

You boys would be way too proud to take a 20 from a man who started out in life on the land that you are to the east of.
