AS WE’VE SEEN TODAY, MAKING YOUR FARM A SAFER PLACE TO WORK AND LIVE DOESN’T HAVE TO COST A FORTUNE. IN AN INDUSTRY THAT, THIS YEAR, RECORDED ALMOST DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF FATAL INJURIES, WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT TO RETHINK RISK AND PUT SAFETY FIRST.

As the UK’s largest manufacturer of frozen potato products, McCain are proud to work with 250 British farmers. Over the last 50 years, they’ve worked in close partnership with their growers, many for three generations.

As a family-owned company, the safety of McCain’s people, partners and products is always their number one priority. And that’s why McCain wanted to support this year’s Farm Safety Week. As part of this, they invited us to beautiful Yorkshire to meet one of their three generation farming families and learn what they’re doing to stay safe every day.

Additionally, as part of their commitment to safety, they will be helping their growers to fund safety improvements on farm through the McCain Potato Farmer Pledge.

As Nick Douglas, Head of Grower Management at McCain Foods (GB), explains: “We are delighted to be supporting Farm Safety Week this year. Farming is at the heart of our business and we’re proud to partner with 250 British farmers. Agriculture continues to have the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK and, therefore, we want to show our farmers and those working in the industry that safety doesn’t have to be expensive and there are a number of affordable measures that can be put in place.”

As you will see from these small and practical examples of how risks can be minimised on farm, your safety and the safety of everyone living, working or visiting your farm doesn’t have to cost the earth.

I notice that Bakewell Auction Mart are having a "Safety and Welfare Training Session " Wed 28th Jul . . This is to be headed by Ms. Miriam Parker , who is , according to the blurb "The UK 's leading expert on farm animal behaviour and livestock handling " . It doesn't allow for any dissenters, by saying , Please make yourself available for this session !. It starts with pie and peas lunch at 1 pm , so that's a good start ! I think this went out to all the buyers .
