I’m sure Guy has been asked that on here in the past and put up figures to show membership is fairly static allthough that’s probably a year or few ago.
After being nagged for 20 yrs we rejoined but already regret it so will not be renewing our membership......we are also CLA members and find them no better so will probably do the same. NFU quoted us for farm insurance as complete package. They couldn't get near to what our renewal is with our existing insurance .

Well a poor job if Minette thinks that people are giving her hassle just because they have different views to herself!

Another question I would have for her would be to explain her speech the other day when she stated that AG must have zero emission's within the next 20 years?? if that isn't left wing and totally unworkable unless the industry stops using Fert/ spreading muck/ slurry and stops cows/ sheep etc from farting then I really don't know what is.

One thing to reduce emissions but a zero target is a complete nonsense, just who is advising her??

To have zero emissions from ag under current rules would mean that you no longer have a livestock industry in the UK.

Is there an actual tie up between the NFU and NFU mutual?? One is involved in flogging insurance and has no business involving itself in politics.
The Group Secretaries get a few hundred quid a year to do the meetings and facilitating for NFU and earn their income from flogging you insurance. Hence why many aren't that fussed about the former

She actually said “Net Zero emissions” zero emissions and net zero emissions is very different.

It’s a funny old word, farming, the producing of food must be the single most important thing for the survival of most humans, those who aren’t able to hunt or grow their own anyway and there’s talk of/expectations of zero emissions yet there must be a1001 things or more that people do which aren’t essential to survival that will never come close be that a short car journey for leisure purposes to jetting off on a foreign holiday.
I’m not saying there aren’t things that could or indeed should be done to cut down on farmings emissions but an expectation of zero from farming but not from leisure is just plain...............well, I’m lost for words.

Yes indeed I have mused similar - particularly about the recent emphasis on Ammonia. But yesterday I happened to be driving and caught the BBC radio 4 programme Inside Science. There was a piece on pollutants - well worth a listen. And an explanation (brief) of why Ammonia is so important. In itself it is not damaging but in the air it forms a precursor molecule that allows other molecules (sulphur dioxide and a few others) to turn into particulates. I have not explained that very clearly so I would recommend iplayer and catch the article if you are interested. Regards.

Farmers say the NFU is just a talking shop....what's this forum if it isn't just a talking shop?

Had a text from a friend saying there are two open meetings in Devon next week that Minette. Is attending . I am sure anyone , like @ Jerry , could attend and ask any question they like?
