No decent work bench in the combined sheep shed/workshop, so I had to improvise...

This is wonderfully out of my experience - of course you would make a work bench from snow, and a perfect demonstration of why you cull cattle that aren't sheep / [goat?] friendly - and probably 5 more weird things before teatime.
I truly hope you are enjoying this as least as much as me.

How did you go on cutting the gas bottle. I did one once. I took the tap off, let it breath, filled it up with water. Started cutting with grinder.....and suddenly it was on the other side of the yard. Dam near pooped myself at the large bang.

My method: valve off, turn upside down and leave in field overnight. Fill with water and Fairy liquid, giving it a shake when half full, when fill all the way. Left it another night. Drained then cut it. No problems at all.

Be very careful. The loudest bang I have ever heard was at a Christmas lecture at the uni I used to work for. The lecturer took a plastic dog bowl, put some soapy water in it. He then took a gas/air torch, got a really roaring flame and put the torch out by squeezing one of the supply tubes. Then he proceeded to blow bubbles in the soapy water until the dog bowl was full of bubbles. Then he took a 6ft pole with a lit taper on the end and touched the bubbles, how it never blew the windows of the lecture room out I do not know.
