Quick germination test

How do merchants do quick germination tests. Obviously I understand the process of putting 100 seeds in a Petri dish and waiting 7days but I am wondering about germination tests when, for example, malting barley is delivered and the merchant provides proteins screening and germination all within 30mins. How is this germination test done?

That's interesting but it says the tetrazolium test takes 24 to 48 hours. Malting barley seems to be able to be tested alot quicker( 30mins). Obviously i understand germination is very important for malting but i just don't understand how they can test something so quickly yet still be accurate.

In the UK, intake tests for germination are carried out by using a quick method, the tetrazolium staining test which takes about 10 minutes in total, and gives a germinative capacity result. This is an indication of what the germinative power of the barley is likely to be, that is 'will it grow?'. The test entails cutting 100 grains along the ventral crease, then immersing them in a solution of tetrazolium under vacuum for 5 minutes. The embryo of growing corns will be stained red; dead corns remain white or may be discoloured. The trained eye can also detect dormant and pre-germinated grains by the degree of staining.
