Has anyone else tried these? Can't recommend highly enough. No vested interest.
Used them on 3 bunches so far. Brilliant. Won't go back to old style abrupt severage.Has anyone else tried these? Can't recommend highly enough. No vested interest.
I got mine on line. Googled it and came up with an email. Just say what you want, they send an invoice and you pay, I used BACs, they came the next day. Let me know if you want the email address. Are the usual places stocking them or is it an online purchase
We have found the calves do much better, seem to keep growing without the "check" weaning can cause. And sooo quiet! We've just used our first batch and, like Wendy, can't recommend them highly enough either! Not a peep out of either weaned calves or their dams. We put them on about three weeks or so before we actually separated the weanlings. They haven't gone back at all and all are eating very well, will certainly continue to use them.
That's what we have done. They have been in about 3 weeks. Cows dried off nicely and took a batch of calves to mart today. Not a sound from the cows. The auctioneer commented they must have eaten a lot of cake, but they haven't had any at all, just their "special" silage in their creep shed. We took the flaps out yesterday and shut them in the creep shed over night, just in case they tried to suck again.http://quietwean.com/?page_id=28 is the website. Does anyone use them immediately before selling at a suckler sale? Presume it keeps cows quieter as well?
What age were you weaning at? Thing that worries me with ours is we wean in Oct so the weather will play a part in dragging them back at bit then normally. Did you do any testing to see how they compared to others with traditional weaning? Guessing the result sounds to have given the objective you wanted anyway thoughThat's what we have done. We have used them on some cows that sucked, they learnt to put their nose down from above to get the points out of the way so they could still sucksame idea as these been using them to wean calves View attachment 282860
