Hello all, know they have been discussed on here before so that's why I'm asking on here.
What's peoples experiences? Are they a quality product? How do they measure up against the other big brands? Asking because I'm in the market for a AC/DC Tig and I'm doing my research as they are not cheap. TIA.

pistonbroke has one iirc. and got on well with it

i quite fancy one of the oxford ones , because as a plus they claim to be very smooth weldng mma on ethem as well as ... ac from an inverter to run rods has to be quite a rare thing. running 6010 rods very smoothly sort of thing.

tigmaker is whats its called iirc. not cheap mind. and ive no experience of oxford.,

I’ve got one of their arc welders and have had no trouble with it in the 10 years I’ve owned it. Also had one of their mug welders in the past too with no issues. Their air-fed helmets are well worth a look too, fantastic bit of kit.

Mine's a mig 180 that will do arc as well. No tig yet . In all fairness they did a very good deal over the phone compared to the web prices and they're five year warranty now, which they've backdated for people that bought them earlier.

I bought a Mig 250 quite a few years ago now, it's a good capable welder and done a fair bit but it's stopped working twice now (once in 1st year) due to component failure- yes their service is great in that they get it picked up next day and sent back repaired in about 7-10 days but that's 10 days without a welder if you don't have another one. When i bought it there were lots of reviews on welding forums saying how good r-tech's after sales service is, in hindsight that was perhaps a tell tale sign as you would hope not to need their services after sale.

Very happy with the Oxford 3 phase i also have and haven't had any experience of their aftersales service.

What's inside them? Welders have moved on from big coils now. Not sure there are better, they can be sensitive to electrical supply that old ons weren't.

I expect mine and your 250 aren't what most would regard as commercial grade compared to your oxford. Hardest day mine has had in three years was last month when I put a new floor in a 7 ft 6 bucket. Did it all on a 13 amp plug, didn't cut out once , happy days. Probably blow up now

I looked at them online. Ended up with a jasic from Howdens in Cavan. Only done light stainless so far but before summer is out should be doing Alu. Not sure the number but think 200amp. Didn’t have time to go look at a Mig but got an alphamac local and like it. Probly why I bought the alphamac is because the dealer would only sell certain products of them and not full range, any untried or not good reviews he would sell. The alphamac wasn’t from Howdens. Would happily deal with them again, not sure where nearest r tech dealer is
