Rabe plough for grassland

What do discs do on ploughs that is so advantageous?
Some seem to want them all round for grassland but I regularly plough up 10-12 year old grass keys without any with no issues.
Is there a benefit to the following crop?

Could discs be bought 2nd hand for this plough afterwards I wonder?

Basically I want to start off with a cheap clean plough first that is known to do a good job at ploughing.

Don't mind spending money on new wearing metal as I can stagger this over a longer period once the plough is bought.

I had a rabe plough . it would plough down most things I found it better if the ground was sprayed off before and was nice and dead . some say the bodies are too short but for the money they are alright :)

Are discs optional when buying new? Lots of plough seem to be missing them or have only 1.

What are overrun cx 4 furrow revs ploughs like? Better or worse than rabe? They also seem good value..

A 12yr old ley is a new ley around here! Discs are an advantage when you're ploughing shallow and trying to bury a mat of ancient grass that grows along the ground and won't mow or graze clean. I've tried ploughing that stuff without discs and it doesn't work unless you rotavate it first. At times I've had to resort to sharpening the discs and running them almost as deep as I'm ploughing.

Have a rabe and cx overum here rabe here for 25+ years great plough never had a welder on her ploughed ground for reseeding cereals and spuds and all sorts of ground to bought a cx 4 years ago to ease the workload with 2 ploughs good plough 2 a longer plough than the rabe if set up properly both ploughs leave a good finish and only have rear discs on them I will not be parting with my rabe either

Which would be the better of the 2 of them? Is the overum a lot heavier on the tractor?

Cant say I’ve ever had to plough stuff of that description right enough.
Anything that rough or close to the rock generally gets rotovated into rape/kale then back to grass the following year without seeing a plough.

This was 15 year old ley getting ploughed in a couple of year back. Steep ground, no great depth of soil no discs and worn right down skimmers.
If on good brown free draining soil @sh40 i doubt discs all round will be necessary. Less weight too.

Your chances of finding a full set of discs would be slim - doubt if youd find them all in one place. Suspect you may struggle to get a disc assembly on the front furrow from memory - too close to headstock?

That's going over nicely, don't think I've ever ploughed anything like that.

I'm beginning to change my mind as rave are now gone and could be hard to get parts in another few years.

Looking at an overum cx 4 furrow now which is also available locally. Again only available now with back discs. How do people rate these plough. It should also be easily bought.
