Rainwater Harvesting Tanks

I see some others have installed rainwater harvesting tanks recently so what are peoples thoughts?

Planning to install rainwater harvesting tanks for sprayer filling in our yard, installing a couple of 20,000 l tanks, do they need a concrete base or will a hardcore/gravel base be sufficient? Planning to get Mid-tier grant funding so need to do it right!

Our current 10,000l tank is just on gravel and has been there for years so do not want to spend more than is necessary.

I would take advice from manufacturer, asking a load of cowboys on here may invalidate any warranty claim a few years down the line

I normally advise people with a hardcore base to blind a bit of fine sand over it before setting the tank down. Helps get things level and cushions the base of the tank nicely. This one has concrete underneath, due to being part of a bigger yard.

Just put mine on compacted MOT type 1, sheet of Visqueen over the top and a layer of 25-50mm sand on top of that.
Visqueen is to stop the dry sand "running" down into the gravel. That's a 12,000 liter Enduramax.

I put 2x 20000lt enduramax tanks side by side on hardcore, big stuff in the base finished with 10mm to dust. I spread cement over the top and packed it down dry with a whacker plate, almost like concrete, hadn't moved in 2 years.

Our tanks in place

Two green are for water on a rainwater harvesting setup (linked together via 2" fittings)

Four white tanks are for mixing and storing liquid fertiliser
