Re drilling

I’ve got a very patchy field of winter oats. I was going to pull it out and redrill it but it has filled in a bit more in the last couple of weeks. Was thinking I could stitch in some spring oats with a direct drill and try and keep the winter oats. Has anyone tried this and what type of drill would you use.
TIA

I've got the same with some wheat , its going to look a dogs dinner anyway so hoping to drill into it , only issue will be heading dates at harvest but will mean more straw which at the moment is looking very scarce.

I did exactly that today, winter oats that have flooded out in places, I used my elderly carrier drill to go straight in.
The hard bit is knowing what to leave and what to re drill but I did learn that If you drive slow over patches that have some plants the majority seem to avoid the tines and are still there to grow on.
