Hiyah,
Had to assist an ewe Thursday with twins (first time mum - large first lamb and legs back second lamb), both alive and good size, but mum started to smell.
Given metacam and alamycin la, but still very offensive.
She is happy, eating, drinking and looking after her twins but still has stinky discharge.
I will try betamox tomorrow but am I missing something - all advice is good advice. TIA

Sheep are the one species that can have uterous infections and carry on as if nothing happend. Horses could be on deaths door within hours of retained cleansing.
If the sheep is fine in herself, I'd treat with antibiotics the vet advised and leave her too it.

Used the wrong AB in my opinion. Betamox or pen&strep for internal stuff like that. I’d also choose a jab everyday vs a long acting version.

+1
I always go for 'white' drugs for uterine infections, or anything involving pus.
Can't get pen and strep at the moment here, so would go Betamox as the cheap and cheerful insurance for 3 days.

I'm going to risk offending @mrsmojos but I'm assuming a new sheep keeper with not very many?
I recommend seeing what your vet says, our vets run a small holders club and have meetings and demonstrations throughout the year. The what antibiotics to use would more than likely have been covered and you would have received a information sheet for what does what as it's a minefield even for the experiencd.
Good luck with the ewe, as already has been said the right antibiotic is key. I always use trymoxl which is amoxicillin based and covers most lambing issues. Spot on for the metacm (y)

@Bald n Grumpy you didn't offend me at all - you are right - I am new, but I'm also an ex district nurse with an eye (and nose) for infections - plus - having to intervene has not helped. I did get a vet to visit prior to lambing and got all the meds he recommended (also did a sheep keeping course last year - so you are bang on the money, have you thought about becoming a psychic ) - but I always post on this forum because experience and knowledge from members provides info that a learning course can't.
She had trymox l.a. (instead of betamox) this morning and she and her twins are now in the field. Thanks for your guidance though, it's appreciated ;)
