By Tom Allen-Stevens Arriving at the entrance to the field, carefully mapped and precisely located, there’s a Landrover, a dog, but no sign of Martin Smart. There is, however, a very gratifying crop of oilseed rape. As you look over the field, with its last remaining scatter of yellow, the pods are setting, and it has that table-top finish that suggests it’ll be gratifying at harvest, too. Then a cap appears above the canopy, with a grin and a cheery welcome. “I was just taking a look at how the canopy’s coming together in this crop. I think we could have a potential YEN award winner here,” says the cap.
