Do you have to keep a record of individual tag numbers when sending/selling lambs with single EID slaughter tags in?
I only write the flock number on the movement license and then the market or abattoir send back a list of the individual numbers that they have read. I have pages and pages of these numbers from kill sheets- do I need to keep them? I’m in Wales if that makes much difference.

That’s all I do. Never had a problem.

The mart will send the list of numbers you moved/sold to Eid Cymru, the list of animals will be on the website, keep the copy of numbers with the license and your fine

Pre 6 months old I only tag a lamb when it’s ready to go so their in sequence (like 09301-0970) to do 70 lambs and just right the from .... to .... on the license. After their all tagged at 6 months I’ll scan them all when crutching/bellying and print it off and send with license. Better off being overly cautious and getting it right first time.

What ear do people put the EID tags in? We’ve always done right but see some in the left with others?

No. Just the UK number is required on the licence, as long as they are all yours/home bred. Not sure if individual numbers are required for bought-in stores as it’s not something I do? :scratchhead:

There is nothing in the legislation that states which ear you MUST put the EID tag in, just an advisory iirc.

I always put the EID tag in the right ear for females and the left ear for rams, making life easier for later drafting. Slaughter lambs, tagged as they are drawn, get the tag in whichever ear is handiest.

Thanks, I was told that on the slaughter lines they prefer it on the right ear 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ve done my 2 breeds of ewe lambs opposite to each other so I can draft them running instead of pausing to look at notches 👍🏻

It’s alright too put your UK number but make sure you tick the “moving too a CPR centre” box. Then make sure you get the tag print out, cross reference too your flock movement register and you are home and dry. That’s what the last sheep inspector I had here told me when I asked.

Trading standard man told neighbour couple of years ago that slaughter tags are a batch tag and to just put the holding number down and the number of lambs moved. These were homebred lambs moving off the holding tho. I would record individual numbers coming on to cover myself tho.

As someone else has said, slaughter tags are a "batch" tag. The fact that they also contain an individual number is irrelevant to you as the the farmer. I don't think you ever need to know or record what those individual numbers are.
