Anybody use regulin on rams to gee them up?

Regulin will only advance the natural breeding season, for ewes and rams. Supposedly it will help the libido and fertility of rams when used in advance of their natural breeding season, but it won’t ‘gee them up’ if they are being used in the Autumn.

It needs to be used well in advance, so run out of time for early lambing flocks now I would have thought?

I’ve tried it a couple of times on Charollais rams ahead of semen collection & AI in July, but I never thought it made a lot of difference tbh, certainly not enough to keep using it. For more aseasonal breeds like Texels or Beltex then it might be worth a go if trying to breed them early?

Thank you. Will be sponging suffxmule ewes to lamb end December. Did the same last year and had a mixture of Charollais and beltex rams. Majority of the lambs were charollais as the beltex's were yearlings and maybe inexperienced? Ive no charollais this year but am worried about the beltex's not being virile enough and thought a shot of melatonin might help.

It’ll be too late to have any effect this year I would have thought. It needs to be implanted a good while in advance.

I sponged a load of ewes to lamb on Jan 1st one year, then turned a ruck of Charollais and Texel rams in. I didn’t have a single Texel lamb.

Can you get hold of some Charollais rams for a week?

I’m struggling to see the point of spending money on having ewes lamb early, then using a ram breed where the lambs will be at least a month behind. :scratchhead:

Absolutely 100% agree with your last statement. I think that sourcing a few charollais would be the safest bet and definitely would give me peace of mind. The regulin applicator looks pretty barbaric also imo
