if you can spin them at a known speed then wire on for number of seconds to get required revolutions , make a neater job than putting on by hand so long as you keep revs at nice speed

There wound with 2mm aluminium wire so not masses of wire but insulating is what i see a bit of a problem as coated in some thing.

If you stagger the working 4 will that be adequate, or is it on a working truck,
Good old Mursel /// you no what i am on with, are he says but the problem is, 3 at one side and one at the other side work, and you can't get the coils of to swop about.

What's it off.
A mate just scrapped a Merc sprinter ambulance which was fitted with one, I'm sure he kept the retarder

don't think there big enough of the merc, but go and find out the size please ,or model might do the job and i'm not to far away from you, might be worth a try. :) Could be a cc80 ? on the Merc. You will need to measure the rotor diameter 340mm ?

Is the rotor plain ally for the eddy currents to mingle or are there shorted bars like a squirrel cage?

Got 2mm aluminium wire coming tomorrow a cheap coil winder of ebay, think all the coils are wound the same way well the parts listing are all the same number, were it does differ is how you wire them up, ie very start of the windings are + and end of windings - and opposite coils are the other way round.

I could be barking up the wrong tree but a while back I watched a YouTube video of some guys using one of these to build a dyno for cars. They has to rebuild the retarder as well, not sure if they covered it very well In the video though.
