make sure you fille it next to the risk assessment for when an alien aircraft crashes or when a comet/asteroid takes out your farm buildings. When, in the middle of a Red Tractor Assessment a Chinook Helicopter flew overhead and I had the Inspector / Assessor suggest that I should perhaps think doing about a Risk Assessment in case one should fly into one of the Wind Turbines on my land I really had to bite my tongue.
Did the inspector show you the risk assessment he made before he vocalised his suggestion....When, in the middle of a Red Tractor Assessment a Chinook Helicopter flew overhead and I had the Inspector / Assessor suggest that I should perhaps think doing about a Risk Assessment in case one should fly into one of the Wind Turbines on my land I really had to bite my tongue.

So another nice little earner for them as a spin off from their scheme. What do NFU members actually get for the sub then?
Worse still you dam yourself if an accident occurs undertaking an action that is in total violation of your own (unread) policy!Recently had a call from NFU Mutual trying to sell me their Health and Safety service. Best part of £2000 for a half day visit followed up by “bespoke” paperwork (I assume copy and pasted where relevant.)
It reminded me of the document (annual report?) recently where the NFU [note: not NFU Mutual] stated they would need to develop their commercial arms in order to continue to survive financially.
Unfortunately in promoting this service I think they are missing the point and purpose about H&S being a day to day thing under continual review. This service almost encourages the perspective that paying for the consultant and paperwork is sufficient to tick that box.
The truth as I understand it is that a 1000 page folder of documents that once produced are never looked at for several years and instead gets filed away in the drawer gathering dust won’t make the HSE much happier than if you haven’t got any paperwork at all…..no matter how much you have paid the consultant to prepare it.
There really is nothing better than common sense, unfortunately that’s hard to quantify in a paper formatRecently had a call from NFU Mutual trying to sell me their Health and Safety service. in my old job I used to look at lots of "off the shelf" health and safety policies. There was always a section under COSHH that would say something like, assessments are undertaken, recorded and are in appendix A. I would then turn to appendix A, and it would always be empty!Worse still you dam yourself if an accident occurs undertaking an action that is in total violation of your own (unread) policy!
