Come on you farmers, our children have just broken up from school & are trying to cycle down roads so narrow & dangerous because we are too scared to trim them, the government in it's "wisdom" have given us permission to trim these hedges early for safety sake, don't go using their rules as just an excuse not to do it, kids lives are very precious!!!

I’m sure you must beware it’s a very busy time of year for farmers and they got more important things to do than trim hedges which should not be cut before sept.i suggest you ring the council rather than complain on here
nick...
Obviously you are not someone with small children but thinks the world owes them a living, I’m farming nearly 700 acres of cattle sheep & arable but can still find time to make the narrow lanes safer, it very much depends on your priorities I guess

I agree, our council haven't even cut the verges this year. I've done mine and neighbours, otherwise as you say there is simply nowhere for walkers and cyclists to pull in for other traffic to pass.

North Lincs council have put little "we are leaving these verges for nature" signs, although it would be nice if they could cut the one near the turning from Mortal Ash Hill to the Kirton road....

Horible junction at any time of year , let alone when its neck height in daisies.
There was a bad smash on the A15 in the week at Manton lane end , wonder if that was because the verges are grown up and driver pulling out couldn't see above it

What exactly do people pay their council tax for in this country ?.
The road sides are a disgrace as are the road surfaces.
I'm quite sure the councils will be delighted that farmers are doing their work for them, don't suppose they'd be too happy if they were billed for the privilege, a bit like cleaning out roadside ditches

Councils have never trimmed all road hedges, they have only ever trimmed dangerous corners & around signs which around here they are still doing, no bloody use us farmers complaining that road hedges are overgrown if we are not prepared to be seen to be proactive.

Our roadside verge contractors are useless - another section of council work tendered out based on cost not quality.
Our guy spat the dummy when I told him he was merely wasting diesel for all the good he was doing

Unfortunately some cyclists, and not all, do not help themselves.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
We have haulage companies refusing to use certain routes based on damage being sustained due to overhanging branches & protruding bushes.
Realistically needs properly flailed back & trees felled, however that is never going to happen - council would rather close the roads.

We had a driver deliver with a large curtain sider that took down a low branch on the busy road in to us. It caught the car of one of my customers. The driver was pee'd off enough as it was, when the customer rang me to ask if I had a delivery to our yard and if so who was the haulage company and did I have a contact number? I pleased ignorance, suggesting contacting the highways Dept.
