Road legal quad bike as transport for 17yr old agricultural apprentice.

I know of someone who has a 17yr old son on an agricultural apprenticeship scheme.
Due to backlog of driving lessons and test availability the parents have to take their son to work.
As their son is a rather heavy guy I was going to suggest to his parents that they buy a second hand road legal quad bike for the lad to get to and from work.
The lad may be needing to travel 20mls or more mornings and late nights ,to and from work. Many thanks for any suggestions.

I think he’ll need a cat B driving licence to drive a quad or a mule type machine. Presume he’s got a tractor licence by the sound of it

DVLA testing has a huge backlog to sort out.
Eldest son managed to blag a 'key worker' test last year during lockdown. Youngest son is waiting for the 'new theory test booking system' to go live in July before he can book one, instructor reckons all the slots for the following months worth of tests will go within minutes of it going live. So much for 'progress'.

Aren't there "tractor" quads in your country (quads that you can drive with tractor license, max speed of 60km/h, tractor license plate, blinkers etc).

Young chap who has been doing digger work here turned 17 last week, day of his birthday he was away to Kyle near Skye to do his theory test, came home with a pass and managed to book a Saturday afternoon practical test, passed that as well. Can’t be many 17 an 2 days old with their license!!
Just shows it is possible with a bit of luck. Other lad here was on about some company that you can pay to ring around until they find you a test somewhere, short notice cancellation etc if you are prepared to travel and pay to get going.

Lad I knew did one of those fast pass schemes. Daddy paid quite a lot of money so he had 2 days Of intensive training followed by test, which he duly passed.
He lost his licence a few weeks later after rolling his car under the influence, thankfully no one hurt.
I dont think they do them now though

There’s a woman who drives past our farm quite often on a petrol mule rtv thing and L plates front and back

it’s quite speedy so obviously bigger than 50cc
