Spike them and patch. Be fine. If I'm reading right you were trying to make hay in first place but got caught short with forecast, so the bales will be 90% dry anyway, won't (shouldn't) sink at all and will be no harm in long run. Make sure to use the "tape" type as opposed to the "patch" type.. which experience shows tend to fall off

Sometimes spiking and taping works, sometimes it doesn't. I cut open some 2019 haylage to check it before selling, was good but then thought a bale with tape might not sell as it was being sold through a merchant. Decided to tape it then rewrap the next time I had the wrapper on. 3 weeks later I went to rewrap the bale and had to dump it.

The bale lifter in the link earlier in the thread is £360 including vat, buying in 11 bales of quality haylage will cost that much. Machinery is only expensive on the day you buy it.
