Royal Mail stops Saturday letter deliveries

Hopefully this will only be a short term measure. I can see they must be affected with staff being off ill or self isolating. It'll create a bit more work for them Monday to Friday but I guess will save the working hours.

Fingers crossed they don't decide to implement this as a longer term measure.

EDIT: Also only seems to apply to letters and not parcels. :scratchhead:

The postman told me they have corona amongst the staff in the sorting office and the whole place is being deep cleaned over the weekend. Take care handling post and let it mature for a few days, despite what those experts tell you.

My grandfather (an accountant in Edinburgh) used to get 3 deliveries a day. I remember when the town still got 2 deliveries, and a letter was pretty much guaranteed to arrive next day and now they won't even deliver my birthday card on a Saturday. It is definately a service which gets worse rather than better

I read something that Manchester posties would only be working monday-wednesday and friday because of staff shortages which seems a backward approach as less staff means more work for the rest

Ours has been much later lately... I think maybes he's doing the other half of the round or doing collections in the afternoon... Theres not much coming in other than mail so I've not had chance of our usual chat / gossip swap. He's like the Oracle on local info.

Today he just buzzed past in the van Mcrae style... Parcels only I guess.

For the Price and Speed on Parcels upto 1kg there is not much to touch them unless your on a mega numbers going out each day.. I've read of Amazon introducing a service where they'll collect and deliver next day like the prime service... I had an email from them but no info since.

Round here they're trying to get all posties part time, Bob, our local man is great, but due to retire sometime this year, he's one of around ten full time working out of Huddersfield, don't do sorting anymore, thats all done elsewhere, Leeds I think.

Last time he came he told me it's been busier than Christmas on parcels, but the bosses won't pay overtime, so parcels have to be delivered but letters can wait until the following day, then they decided no letters saturday, so Monday is going to be a killer for them, because loads of parcels get into the system on Sat and Sunday, and you can't keep throwing letters back until the next day.

We get very erratic post at the moment and sometimes it is every other day. Even had a Sunday delivery recently!
Our normal guy is first class and will normally make sure signed for stuff gets left!! He does loads of parcels now as well which has got to be good for the PO.
I just need the last few Luddites to stop writing cheques and pay by BACS!
