Neighbour has 15 acres of rye corn planted last autumn that he was planning to eat off now but has no need for it now.

It’s knee high at present and he’s thinking about cutting and baling/wrapping.

Never fed it but could do with 50 rounds for next winter as cattle feed.

Does it wrap ok And what sort of feed value can you expect?

Great bulk for dry cows. I grazed this in Feb and March, Cut in June and baled the next day. It ended up over 6' high in places.

You can wrap in field but be careful not to drop them from a great height onto the stubble. I laid them out in a row for the wrapper and drove up and down a few times to flatten any sharp stalks.

grazing rye or combining/wholecrop cereal rye @Jerry ?
I’ve grown a fair bit of cereal rye and hybrid rye when working on an arable farm, mid-late june wholecropped over a weighbridge at 17t/ac fresh weight with grains milky ripe (40% DM iirc) averaged over 150acre. Combined 10ac the next year as it was to wet to wholecrop at the time and it yielded 3.3t/acre grain and 3t/acre straw, it did stand over 6’ high mind!
