Prestel - that was it!

We used to be able to get our MMB milk quality results from there and there was a company (was it called 'farmlink' that did farming news?
We did beef costings on Prestel. Had a little self contained terminal recycled from the travel agents.
Had an Apple 1 in the early 80s, boy that was slow!

Talking of Harper, did any of you know Peter Allen. he did alot with cow diets and had his own company and software.
He lives in our village and became a good friend and neighbour to my late father over the last few years.

Sadly of an age that can just remember Peter Allen. Also “chappy” Luscombe

Deffo, serious Level One geekiness! (y)

I tried and tried to get into Linux, and in spite of lots of encouragement from an old mate who ran the local Linux UG, I think I had got computers out of my system by then!

First on line in 1993. Required by daughter unprepared to pay for land line calls from Exeter Uni!
Series of desktops since but always one step behind the curve.
I find this forum too busy to engage properly as threads progress too rapidly for a *twice a day* poster.
Nice to see some remembered tags:)

Although not in agriculture I think my father in law can out geek most. He was in the RAF for his national service working with radar. After he left he worked for Marconi and ended up on the development team for LEO the Lyons Electronic Office. Keeping this on topic it's the food group Lyons. This was the 1st office computer. He was one of the 1st people to have an office computer. No internet then or storage on the machine and definitely not portable.

Was there a Windows 97? Windows 95 perhaps you were thinking of.

I still remember loading Office using floppies. I think it was Office 95. Office 97 was on CD. What a difference!
