Looking to buy an ali scaffold tower, 6-7 m tall. Fair old selection and range of prices on Google. Anyone bought one recently, any recommendations ? TIA.

I know you get cross about H + S police but please be careful, I know a few people who have come off them. May just be bad luck but has made me more wary of them.
I was thinking safer than working from a ladder ? Did they fall whilst climbing them, or whilst working from the top ?

Did they come off them because they weren’t using them properly?
I have one I use on sites and at home, don’t ever use it without the proper waist high safety bar as it would be all too easy to step off, one just at knee height even worse. Don’t buy one if you are willing to take short cuts using it is all I can say.
Mine is a Lewis

Lewis is one that I was looking at. Was going to get one from Screwfix, but the click and collect option wasn't available, nor was the delivery option.....:scratchhead:

Bought a Lewis last year, I went for 7.7metre as that was the lowest height where you got the longer stabilisers. Very pleased with it, only one slight issue that I need to rectify, the 7.7m tower comes with two deckboards, which isn't really enough as its too big a height gap to put it together. Must get round to ordering another platform.

Really quite fancy this. I could tour the countryside waving at the crowds from my platform like the Pope. :)

Have one with that size/ type wheel, no use on farm unless perfect concrete conditions,
But it’s for sale if interested.

As said 6-7 metres working height is a fair height.

Unless used a couple of times every week would be easier to hire.

That height you will need large outriggers and I would want multiple lifts, so minium 4 staging boards which will make it expensive.

If used on site you will need PASMA, toe boards and a scaff tag on it.

Thats way wrong, I just had a look, the Tower I bought from Lewis was £1100 plus vat, HSS want £176 a week to hire one 500mm shorter than mine. I've done three jobs so far with mine so thats half my money back already at those rates.
Also you would need to be a right shortar** to need four staging boards at 7 metres

BOSS 3T towers, dont bother with anything else. theres reasons they are the only ones most hire companies will touch. hire rates here are £10 per meter per week, so £70 a week. guessing probably £2k ish to buy. generally i prefer owning stuff but unless you have work lined up for a long time hiring doesnt work out too bad for towers.

All I can offer is if you do buy one make sure the wheels are height adjustable. I burrowed a mates a while back that wasn’t adjustable. Ideal on a office floor totally useless in any other situation. And also order a pack of scaffold ties from Screwfix. Very easy to install and leave in place to use again but you can tie your scaffolding/ ladder off wherever you need in masonry
