Scotland to retain 70% direct subsidy payments

Welcome news (for those of us up here nearer the arctic) that Scotland will not follow the English cliff edge approach to subsidy payments.

We're told by Hamsa Useless himself that 70% of future payments will be direct support, with the rest being made up of (competitive entry?) "enviromental" awards

Two questions :

1. Future payments may be 70% direct, but 70% of what?

Current payment plus greening? Current payment? Some arbitrary amount of money they've yet to decide?

2. What about LFASS?

Less favoured area payment was due to end in 2018, but got a reprieve when Westminster was forced to hand over Scottish EU convergence money. However the scheme ends this year.

What, if anything, is going to replace this payment that is so crucial to so many Scottish farmers?

Formulating a forward budget is impossible. Telling the laird's factor where to put his demanded rent rise, though, is far simpler

Not very much details out yet does this mean the scheme will not change till 2027 ,so the status quo will apply up until then.
Not to surprised as it did not feel that anybody in the industry wanted a big change.

Wouldn't get too excited about it considering Scotgov just seem to help themselves to the agri budget when it suits them and NFUs does FA about it,its laughable, westminister puts the money up here for ag then SNP/Greens help themselves to it.
There are a lot of voices calling for 20% direct payments so 70% is a fair start. LFASS is on top of tier 1+2 but unsure what other budgets it may come from.
Westminster has made no financial commitment yet but it looks likes reasonable stability until 2027.
However to say the NFUS does FA about the ring-fenced 61m which has been borrowed is simply untrue.
NFUS has more registered government contacts annually than any other business organisation. It lobbies government but doesn't run it in spite of what some farmers think

You obviously see nfus in a different light from me,I will not be renewing my membership as I see no benefit as an arable farmer, they should apply far more pressure on scotgov than they appear too, they are sitting on there hands regarding red tractor, sqc etc, malting barley being imported at the moment, not hearing much from them on that either. Can't support an organisation if they don't support there members.

The sooner we are governed by a Central Computer & an algorithm the better off we will all be.
You mean like the one in Brussels? 🙄

Seriously wouldn't want to be an English or Welsh farmer facing ludicrous draconian enviromental compulsory cuts right now

At least the EU farmers were able to make the EU commission "see sense". Poor buggers south of Hadriens wall are still being told they're responsible for the entire planet heating up

There is nothing sensible coming out of any of the governments now, how we change that I have no idea, however it is an election year, it may bring personnel change, will that be better than the current Lego munchers? we can only hope it gets better or will we be re-cycling the same old for another 4 years?

Problem is New MP's MSP's will be told by the UnCivilService what they can do and what they can say.

Just like our NFU leader's and Reps. Been there, and been told "It won't happen" That was near 40 years ago, and ashamed to say it was two years later before I walked away and stopped paying membership.

Just stay on the Merry Go-round and hope it don't go to fast and throw us off.
