Seed Fiddle

Here we go. Another picture from a box of old family farming photos.

This one shows my dad sowing grass seeds in about 1985 in his retirement field in the South Hams, Devon.

The seed fiddle that was at least 50years old then.

I can remember it clearly being stored safely in the farm house to keep it in working order - canvas seed sack, leather bow string, bits of timber frame and aluminium spinner.

Probably the last documented use of such a device, unless of course, you know better............

One here too, last used, erm....... 2018, establishing a flower and nectar plot! Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing!

I use one of these for gateways and round feeders and tanks.

2 seed fiddles here, still used for small bits. Father and uncle used to sow all our seeds with them (usually in the teens of acres) until around 2002, then bought a Fiona drill, hook coulters up and away you go.

We had one until very recently... hadn't been used in a very long time though. Sadly last time it was lifted down for dad to get nostalgic it fell to bits in his hands (well rotten)
