I’m curious to know your thoughts on Grass seed quality, do you think they are all the same, or are some suppliers better than others?

Grass seed has to be legally certified to a minimum European Union (EU) standard for sale within the European Community (EC). In the UK, the standards for purity and germination are governed by the Seed Marketing Regulations 2011.

Some seed houses adhere to the Higher Voluntary Standard (HVS), unique to the UK, guaranteeing a higher level of purity than the EC standardising and production technologies.

For example, Italian Ryegrass, Hybrid Ryegrass and Westerwolds can legally be sold with a minimum germination figure of 75%, therefore it is possible to get a bag containing almost 25% (a quarter bag) of dead seed.

Once seed is germ tested the certificate raised against each particular batch "stays" with that batch for 6 years some seed houses will move on any seed that is 3 years old.

Some ranges of grass mixtures are better than others I offer 6 ranges of different grass mixtures. Ask a lot of questions before purchasing then ask the price not the other way round.
