Self propelled to Trailed

This is really aimed at our spraying God above. Apologies to everyone else if this appears rather arrogant, but I'm going to defend myself on this one.

Done this.

Spent ages orientating tramlines to minimise wasted time and to get efficiently around poles. Wrote a spreadsheet to calculate AB lines coordinates to thread through poles.

And spent literally months perfecting our bowser to absolutely minimise downtime.

And I think we have one of the better spray stores to making chem mixing as pain free and as quick as possible.

But maybe it is just my maths ability that's really slowing me down. But then again I didn't think you you had a physics degree from Oxford too so just maybe you can shove your abacus up your induction hopper.

Am I annoyed? Yes.

Some of this I will apologise for. Some I will not.

My post was not aimed at you at all. I’ve read and contributed to the many threads you’ve thoughtfully posted over the years that have run to many many pages of discussion. When it comes to planning, there’s no one who can surpass you as you’ve nicely summarised in your reply. In that respect, I am not worthy to lick your shoes!

On the other hand, perhaps reading and posting in TFF after midnight on a Saturday is not a good idea. Please chill out. I didn’t intend to offend anyone, least of all you.

No, no, no! I didn't mean you in the slightest! You would be about the last person I'd criticise on here. Cripes, I was just using your good points as a spring board to defend myself against Will7's accusation.

@Feldspar, I never accused you of anything and I am surprised by your reaction, although I never thought to look at the time of your replies. I have changed the word you took exception to in another post, and then later explained where my comment came from. I stand by my comments about the quality of operator often being overlooked in theses debates which seems to have been vindicated by some of those you do respect.

I have no desire to fall out with anyone, especially someone I have never met. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Perhaps we can move back on topic now.

Ah. I misread your post.

Well, this is an Internet forum so you've got to expect people to lob hand grenades in occasionally, though I didn't detect Will7 having a pop at you personally.

Thanks for the reply. The way you worded it I couldn't see who else you could have been referring to as I think I was the only person who had mentioned averages done with the type of setup you mentioned. Anyway, let's move on.

@Feldspar just wondering when moving from self propelled to trailed did you have to make much adjustment to your state of the art sprayer shed as in length?

Now that is a very good point! I didn't, but I did have to think very carefully about which model I ordered as it would have been very embarrassing if I wasn't able to shut the door. Luckily I got my calculations right.

To the original post. Get what you want. Or your operator wants. Life too short. The money this kit has inflated over the last decade is crazy. But it isn’t going to deflate massively. Over the last ten years I’ve invested on machinery which can cope with 3 times the acreage I farm. I purchased a chafer intercepter 4000/24m on 750 owned acres. I drive it! Should be good for 20 years plus. As is all the kit I’ve brought since I’ve run the farm. Depreciation is only mentioned once a year. When the accounts come back. And forgotten the next day. Great thread once again.

The thread that just keeps giving ........

@Banana Bar the only real negative to running a trailed is reversing in corners. It’s a pain.

If you go for one I’d get a bi-fold boom not tri-fold as it’s quicker around obstacles.

Looks a very smart efficient setup.

Could that even be possible? Even in say, Central or Eastern Europe?

Assume big relatively flat fields, no pylons and say 20km/h forward speed?

That is an older machine with Muller electrics. I would imagine that hours sprayed, means the same as on the newer Horsch software, ie. hours spraying, means when you are actually spraying and does not mean field hours nor total hours. If you like its average spot rate, not including turning etc, similar to combine hours. If so then 40ha/hr would be correct.
