Just a random pic of one of my contractors machines, for no other reason than he left it at my place last night ( he had 700 ha to do for me, so a bit more than a days work ) & it was there when I went out early this morning

Interesting to see a mechanical drive high clearance sprayer. Not common over here.

more fuel efficient, less power losses from the wheel motors apparently, it’s one of their selling points

besides, he did have 2 Miller Nitro rigs, but one got rolled into an irrigation channel & he was quoted $100,000 to overhaul the wheel motors on the other one, so he traded it for the Goldacres instead. I think the $100k repair build made mechanical drive look pretty good . . .
Cummins motor, Allison automatic transmission
Australian built

Looks like a small tank too

we don’t like big tanks - too heavy, too much compaction, needs too much power etc etc

I think this is 4000 l ?
most will also run a water / mixing truck to fill up on the headland
Most contractors will have a man driving the water truck & mixing loads, so the only time the spray rig has to stop is to pump a pre mixed load into it with a 3” hose & for the driver to have a pîss or a smoke while that’s happening

They use really low water rates. Was 40l/ha when I was spraying there.

What water rate are you using @Farmer Roy ?

What are you spraying?

Why does he have narrow tyres? Thought we should all be spraying on 710s

80 l / ha
This job he is doing a “double knock” application of Gramoxone to deal with resistant ryegrass on country I will plant to durum next week, & then a Roundup / ULV / mix fallow spray prior to planting chickpeas

we like tall, narrow tyres, even on our tractors. The tall tyres also give greater clearance which is required for lots of our spraying.
Longer footprint, while staying narrow for CTF tracks & minimal interference with plant rows when planting. We try to avoid planting into wheel tracks as much as we can, so the narrower the tyre the better, within reason . . .

yeah, back in the day the old 4WD tractors all ran 30.5 x 32 duals or something fat like that, but now it’s all 480 / 80R / 50’s on the tears of high horsepower FWAs

Gramoxone was great for spraying your lawn prior to a fortnights pre harvest holiday. It had just about greened up again when you got home. It saved having a silage field when you got home or paying someone to mow it.

This is really aimed at our spraying God above. Apologies to everyone else if this appears rather arrogant, but I'm going to defend myself on this one.

Done this.

Spent ages orientating tramlines to minimise wasted time and to get efficiently around poles. Wrote a spreadsheet to calculate AB lines coordinates to thread through poles.

And spent literally months perfecting our bowser to absolutely minimise downtime.

And I think we have one of the better spray stores to making chem mixing as pain free and as quick as possible.

But maybe it is just my maths ability that's really slowing me down. But then again I didn't think you you had a physics degree from Oxford too so just maybe you can shove your abacus up your induction hopper.

Am I annoyed? Yes.
Nice to see the bowser up and running James! Well done to you and your staff.
