Sewage treatment plant

As condition of a planning application it looks like we will have to replace an existing septic tank with a treatment plant ( 1 dwelling / 4 occupants) Any thoughts on the best type to install , ballpark cost ?

Dig a big hole, put it in it and fill it in again, get some dry mix in with it and fill it with water sharpish. They pop out of the ground like a giant float if the water table is high and they are empty.
Done a couple of the ordinary septic tank onion shaped ones in the past no problem. Assume these need a duct laid for the sparky to pull a cable through

Just make sure you fill from the inlet and not the outlet, I got it wrong, so only one side filled up and it popped up, I didn’t realise as it was in the dark.

Ensign for me, it only has a compressor to bubble up which you can take out and put in a nearby nicer spot - not in the sewage fumes - and run a 1 inch plastic pipe to the tank from the nicer spot.

Take care to fill all three compartments with water as you backfill.

We backfilled with wet lean from the pan mixer.

The ensign goes into a nice rectangular hole with a flat bottom, dug it with a 3 tonner. Onion ones needed to go a lot deeper and the hole profile is difficult to get right from the digger seat prompting loads more granular back fill.

It is really boring that you should have planning permission to install one, one of my neighbours was shopped to the local Borough Council which lead to weeks of delays and more expense as they stored the new treatment plant in full view of neighbours.

Mine stayed behind a building until point of insertion.

How much electric do the Ensign use?
I would like to put one in at a site with no mains power, was wondering if solar was a feasible option.

EDIT: found it, they are 50w

Do you all put a concrete base in first? I've a 12 person marsh ensign to fit soon and wondering weather to put the base in solid
I put a layer of sand in the hole first to stop any sharp stones from causing damage then back filled with ready mix concrete, make sure you bring the water level up in the tank at the same time to stop it popping up, i haven’t got the ensign one but it’s the same principle with an air pump.
