I've queried this with rpa but no answer yet , does anyone know what the process is going to be i.e. if you got in before the 25% cap can you increase bird mix etc to more than 25% if you want to it all seems very confusing . does anyone know? will be needing to make some cropping decisions very soon !

As I understand it once you’ve submitted your application, that’s the maximum area you’re allowed to claim for. You can claim for up to 50% less in the following 2 years, but not more.
I don’t think you’ll be able to do it, plus the application window for 23 is now closed, in theory SFI 24 applications should open any time soon but the 25% cap will stop you doing what you suggest.

You can’t, as far as I know, add actions, but you can increase the area of rotational options you already have as much as you like in the second and third year.
If you want to add an action you will have to do it as a 2024 action, under those rules.

My understanding when we signed up last oct for a start date in nov 23 was that you/ I would be able to add more actions of the existing plus other new actions which would be brought in this summer. They seem to have renaged on this and any increase/new actions will have to be a new sfi 24 agreement for 3 years . This is not as stated in defras guidance/rules re the initial 23agreement .There is no mention in their guidance or rules that you would have to start a new 3 year agreement i.e sf1 24 and therefore have two I reckon they are in breach of contract. !! I have asked for clarification but not had a reply 3 weeks later

I submitted a claim in May 24 but cropping plans have changed and 1 field I planned to drill with Sam 3 herbal I ideally want in winter barley and another I put in winter bird feed on grassland I want in barley.

Can I change them or not?

Re my earlier post above number 8 in this thread. The original handbook ( published on 21st may 23 as well as the upgraded one published ( 28 june 24 )clearly states on pages 11 and 12 of both that an sfi agreement is for 3 years and can be upgraded and added to annually and you will be able to add more actions and eligible land to your sfi agreement.
There is no mention of having to create a new sfi 24 3 plus year scheme to amend or update your scheme if you have a 23 agreement.
Nor in any of the various updates is there any mention of a change which even if there was how can it be retrospectiveI if you have signed up to a 23 sfi .

edited to add. See also page 134 of the handbook where it states you can uprade your sfi agreement and add more sfi actions

All correct I think, we just need clarification of what the process is for doing the changes

I wouldn't image you could change them.

Do the plan you want and just declare at the year end that u didn't get a field of herbal lay in and u didn't get a field of bird feed in

that’s useful thanks and suggests adding new sfi24 options to sfi23 agreements will be possible

good news as i don’t really want multiple agreements if possible
Don’t get to excited as just had a call from rpa saying that we can’t add 24actions to a 23 agreement and contrary to what I was also lead to believe we can’t increase any actions above 25% even though we have a pre 25% agreement in place but he’s going to check that and get back to me .

Rang yesterday and was told I could add actions from the sfi 24 list to our 23 agreement to start on the anniversary and finish on the same end date . This could be done sometime in the 2 months prior to the anniversary date at the same time as sending a form in ( as yet unavailable) to report the actions we have done to comply with our 23 sfi.
so looks like conflicting advice ffs
