Sfp, scottish loan letter

Nice surprise in the post for a change, sfp loan letter from Scottish government, far play to them, as its only August, hopefully the snp will keep some kind of direct payments after 2026, as looking at the weather in Scotland there needs to be something better than elms up here at least goods store lmbs are making 70 odd£ a head, need to be 100 if the sub goes, did hear from an nfu man that maybe an upland ewe sub maybe on cards, jobs for the boys counting them. Anyways it all needed.

Not heard of a ewe subsidy yet. I don't think SFP on area will go completely as the rural economy would collapse. 'Public good' will be part of it and if we can make the right scientific argument then climate change mitigation is where the money is.

I wouldn’t bank on much continuing the way it’s been post covid.
Country won’t have the money to be paying out on any form of sfp.

I think they will have plenty money , on the grand scheme of things Covid ain’t grand yet and any way they just print some more. The banking crisis was into the trillions !

it says that capping is an option but must be done so farmers cant restructure their business to gain from it, what about al the family farms with siblings that will naturally want to split anyway? wil they not be unfairly punished when they split?

Evicted, or fixed term tenancy agreement ended, and still farming his other (owned) farm?

If it's where I think it is, you have a point in that the contractor seems determined to farm as much of Scotland as possible between the Forth and the Tweed, at *ANY* cost. And thats not just pounds shillings and pence, but significantly reducing the number of farming families and associated businesses in this district and several others, and many other 'externalities', like the effect on the village primary school roll, etc etc.

Still farming a very small owned farm.
Ending a fixed term tenancy, rather than renewing it is still an eviction in my book.
Bps has accelerated the trend that iacs began.
Sfp slowed it considerably, as the landlord couldnt claim, but the chocks are well off now.

I agree that the farmer taking the risk should get the money and the rules need changed or we will have more slipper farmers than ever. A cap is the way to go to stop never-ending expansion and divi the rest up across active farmers.
But just taking all the money away would leave Scottish farmers at the mercy of world prices and there is only one winner in that fight
