Long way to go for me to regain my losses in Scottish Mortgage. Down around 25%.

Still my new Vanguard thingies are up this morning...

s&p did 24% last year for me, it’s a petty safe bet - sine say the usa is due a fall now though so a global fund is a good hedge again that, don’t put all your eggs in one basket !

i’m quite heavy in many of the companies in the s&p as well, amazon, google, microsoft, nividia, amd , apple etc aka “the magnificent 7” . - between them all i was near 52% up in 2023 ! - you can’t really go far wrong investing in such global giants really can you ?

uk wise insurance shares like Sabre have done well for me last year as has the health sector - spires healthcare and Novo ( diabetic drug)

the stinkers for me have been pets at home and airbnb - i thought both would do well post covid but haven’t. i also put some in a company called unbound who are as good as bust now on the recommendation of a friend. …… that was bad move but you can’t win them all

I suppose you could say food and drink, and healthcare are the only things we genuinely ‘need’.

private healthcare is a good bet imo on the basis NHS increasingly won’t / can’t cope, my novo shares are based on the fact we are heading into a obesity / diabetes epidemic without any doubt

the “safe” part of my portfolio includes the like of unilever etc. - not exciting companies but products we need and buy regardless of economic circumstances
